Kristallnacht Commemoration 9th & 10th November 2018
Friday 9 November – Members and friends of BHPS only.
- A commemorative service led by Rabbi Elli is scheduled for 7pm to 8pm in the presence of members of the BeitHaChidush Liberal Congregation of Amsterdam and their Rabbi, and other invited guests followed by Kiddush and a Chavurah supper in the foyer.
- Dr David Juenger, DAAD Lecturer in Modern European History and Deputy Director for the Centre for German-Jewish Studies at the University of Sussex will give an illustrated talk: “The crucial year 1938. Nazi German aggression, the Jewish refugee crisis and the failure of international diplomacy” Scheduled time 8.30pm to 9.30pm.
- The evening will end with the unveiling downstairs of our drawings of Rose Canaan and Hans Levy in, in order to honour both survivors of that period and esteemed members of our congregation.

SATURDAY 10th NOVEMBER – OPEN TO ALL
The Jewish community of Brighton and Hove Progressive Synagogue will mark the 80th anniversary of Kristallnacht at a special commemorative event open to the general public on Saturday 10th November starting from 10.30am and continuing throughout the day.

Margarete Mendelsohn and eyewitness of Kristallnacht will be speaking & reading from her book.

Screening of a 15-minute documentary on Kristallnacht with eye-witness accounts.

Screening of ‘Denial’ (1 hr 50 mins). A 2016 film portraying how David Irving, a Holocaust denier sued university Professor Deborah Lipstadt for libel.
