My Year in Velvet

Chris Gebbie, the former High Sheriff of Sussex, entertainingly describes the origins of Shrievalty – – the oldest office under the crown – – as well as the arcane process of appointment, the relationship the lieutenancy and the relevance of High Sheriffs in today’s world.  Chris includes snatches of his 2014/2015 diary of experiences wearing velvet.

Travel and Parking.

The synagogue at 6 Lansdowne Road is a 15–20-minute walk from both Hove and Brighton railway stations, and easily accessible by bus. Parking is free on a first come first served basis at Brunswick School on Somerhill   Road.  Alternatively, parking is available with PayByPhone cashless parking.

Tickets must be purchased at least two weeks in advance and shown at the door.  The cost for each lecture and lunch is £20 per person.
